Flatten Your Van Walls: Introducing the AVC Aluminum Furring Kit
Hey everybody, Matt here for AVC, and welcome back to the shop! Today on AVC Chronicles, we're thrilled to unveil a brand new product designed to revolutionize how you install wall panels in your Ford Transit van: the AVC Aluminum Furring Kit.
We know how challenging it can be to get perfectly flat walls in the inherently curved interior of a van. Traditional methods often involve shimming with wood, which can be inconsistent and time-consuming. That's why we engineered a dedicated solution for a more consistent and professional finish.
Why the Aluminum Furring Kit?
The AVC Aluminum Furring Kit was designed based on valuable feedback from our customers. While our robust Skeleton Framing Kit offers a premium bolt-in solution for your wall panels (no screws needed!), we heard that some folks wanted an affordable option that still solved the crucial problem of wall flatness.
This new kit is our "barebones" solution. It's specifically designed to fur out the curved sections of your van's pillars, providing a perfectly flat surface for your wall panels to mount to. Unlike the Skeleton Kit, this aluminum kit is screwed directly into the van's frame at the pillars. (While you could glue it, glue isn't provided in the kit.)
Components of the Kit: Flattening Every Curve
The Aluminum Furring Kit is available in a five or seven-piece design, meticulously crafted to flatten out the van's interior from approximately 60 inches down to the middle section at about 23 inches. Let's take a closer look at each individual component:
-
Driver's Side B-Pillar Support: This piece mounts up against the B-pillar by the
seatbelt column. It lines up with existing holes at the top and bottom of the pillar for easy self-tapper installation. This piece is crucial for supporting your wall kit in what can be a challenging gap to finish.
-
Driver's Side C-Pillar Support: Arguably the most important piece on the driver's
side, this mounts right in the middle of the van. It has alignment holes at the top and bottom, with additional spots for screws along the sides and top corners of the pillar. This piece specifically corrects the prominent curvature in this section of the van, preventing your wall kit from getting "sucked in" and causing issues with cabinet fitment.
-
Driver's Side D-Pillar Support: Located at the very back of the van, this support
has alignment holes at the top and bottom. It spans a common funny little curvature, providing a solid point to screw your panels into. This is also a convenient spot if you want to add a USB outlet or support for "innie" sleepers.
-
Passenger Side D-Pillar Support: This is an exact mirror of the driver's side D-
pillar support, mounting in the same way at the very back of the passenger side.
-
Passenger Side C-Pillar Support: This vital piece installs over the doorway on the
passenger side, eliminating the curvature in this particularly tricky spot. Without this, your wall kit can get pulled in really tight, creating an undesirable edge that's highly visible next to the door. It features alignment holes at the top and bottom and screws along the inside edge and front face for a simple install.
-
Optional C-Plus Support (for Extended Vans): If you have an extended Ford
Transit, there's an additional C-Plus support available. This vertical support spans the gap between the C-pillar and D-pillar, designed to bridge between two wall panels in the rear section of an extended van. It screws in from underneath and on top and can "float around" anywhere you need it to go – whether in front of sleepers or to support other rear installations. While not essential for long body vans, it can be ordered for extra support if desired.
Installation: Simple and Effective
Once you have your kit, installation is straightforward. The pieces are designed to align with existing points in the van, and you'll screw them directly into the pillars. The result? A consistent, flat surface that makes installing your wall panels a breeze, giving your van conversion a truly professional and finished look.
