Van Tour Spotlight: Inside Our Latest Custom Aluminum Shower Cabinet | 2025 Ford Transit Build

Welcome back to the shop! In this post, we are taking a detailed look at our latest custom build: a 2025 Ford Transit High Roof Extended chassis. As the longest option available for the Ford Transit, this platform gives us plenty of room to pack in awesome features, custom cabinetry, and a wide-open layout.

Let's dive into the full tour!

Exterior & Off-Grid Setup

  • Chassis & Exterior Details: The van features black HID headlights, fog lights, a blackout grille, and a paint-matched front bumper (though Matt prefers the classic black bumper look!). It's equipped with large trailer mirrors for enhanced rear visibility.

  • Windows & Ventilation: Up front on the driver-side quarter panel, we installed an AMA slider window. In the back, we added CR Lawrence 1033 slider bunk windows, which match our interior cubby frames and make it easy to modulate airflow. The rear doors have no factory windows, maximizing privacy and interior insulation.

  • Power & Connectivity: The passenger side houses a 30-amp shore power connection alongside an SAE port dedicated to a Starlink satellite setup. This allows the van to be parked off-grid in the trees while the Starlink dish sits out under open skies.

  • Roof Setup: Up top on the AVC roof rack, you'll find a rooftop 48-volt solar panel, a Maxxfan, and a permanently hard-mounted Starlink system for maximum versatility.

Interior Design & Color Palette

  • Ceiling & Walls: The ceiling features our AVC felt wall kit in Fog, paired with matching walls in Mineral. The walls use a woolen Byrne fabric by the yard, which does a fantastic job of masking black hardware for a clean, stock-like aesthetic.

  • Cabinetry & Countertops: The lower cabinets feature a striking dark blue (RAL 5009), paired with a Luna Bright White solid surface countertop from Formica to help brighten up the interior space.

  • Flooring: We used 2tec2 Planet flooring. A clever perk of ordering pre-cut flooring from AVC is getting a bonus cut-out piece that acts as a handy welcome mat by the doorway, held securely in place by grip tape on the step.

Cab & Living Space

  • Swivels & Cab Locker: Up in the front cab, we utilized Ford factory swivels (the passenger seat spins a full 180 degrees to face a pull-out workstation table). An AVC cab locker sits between the front seats for secure storage and a flat surface to set items down. An Espar furnace is tucked beneath the passenger seat to keep things warm during winter trips.

  • Kitchenette & Innovative Flip-Up Shower: The driver-side kitchen module includes a dual induction burner cooktop, a silverware drawer, and a 130-liter Indel B fridge. Next to it is a perpendicular sink module with a deep stainless steel sink, hot/cold faucet, and massive under-sink storage. Best of all, a clever flip-up countertop hides a full interior shower and space for a portable dry toilet, giving you hard-sided privacy without shrinking your daytime floor space.

  • Seating & Storage: The passenger side features a "non-passenger bench" (a storage bench with RoamRest cushions) housing a large portable potty, right next to a four-drawer stack unit.

Bedroom & Utilities

  • Twin Bed Layout: The rear features a twin bed setup (26 inches wide by 80 inches long) that leaves a wide-open central aisle, making the back feel cavernous and easy to walk through. A central board can also be added to combine them into one large bed.

  • Water & Power Systems:

    • The driver-side bed base houses a 30-gallon water tank and an Isotemp 6-gallon hot water heater that heats up directly from the vehicle's drive system so you have hot water ready upon arrival without using battery power.

    • The passenger-side bed base holds an EcoFlow 5kWh power kit (with room to expand to 10kWh).

  • Finishing Touches: Custom AVC cubby window frames wrap around the rear slider windows, providing built-in storage for window shades and convenient USB charging ports. Climate control is managed by a highly efficient Velit 2000R 48-volt AC unit running off the EcoFlow system. Finally, the rear doors feature VanEssential lower storage cubbies, a rear hot/cold shower mixer, and complete window shade kits for total privacy.
